Some polling stations will be moved to better locations to overcome architectonic barriers

Last Thursday the regional delegate of the Electoral Census Office, Arsenio Lasheras, and the responsable of this office, Asunción Coll, visited the different polling stations of the town together with the councilor for Statistic, Matilde Blázquez, and some municipal technicians, in order to check personally  both the works carried out already and those that  are scheduled to run to improve the access to them, avoiding in that way the architectonic barriers.

This visit is part of the activities carried out by the Electoral Census Office and the Town Hall of Mazarrón aimed that everything is ready for the celebration of the next European Elections on May. Regarding to the improvements that are expected to undertake it is expected the provision and upgrading of toilets for disabled, and also the installation of ramps and removal of different architectonic barriers.

Regarding to the locations, it was agreed the transfer for the next European Elections of some polling stations to  Camposol, in order to give answer to the petitions of the neighbors that have to drive to the old Universidad Popular of Mazarrón to vote. According Matilde Blázquez " this is one more step that, together with the Statistic service already set up in Camposol, demonstrates the commitment of the Town Hall  to respond to the petitions of the residents".

In Cañada de Gallego will also transfer the polling station to the social local  situated next to the health center, in the center of the district, making easier the access by foot of many residents that will not have to drive to exercise their right to vote, as before it was necessary to move to ‘San Antonio’ school. Moreover, at the building of Urbanismo will be also enabled two polling stations at the cafetería situated on the ground floor, avoiding is this way having to go down to the basement where tables were placed and whose access is more complicated.

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, has explained that “Camposol, as has happened with the bridge or with the adoption of the water cycle, deserves our attention and in such important elections for the foreign residents as the European, will be able to exercise their right to vote without having to travel”.  The first councilor has also highlighted that “also those people with reduced mobility will be benefited of these initiatives, as it is our duty that they can exercise their vote with the greatest facility and convenience possible”.
