This weekend Mazarrón, and specially its ecuatoriana community, hold the festivity of the Virgen del Cisne. A  commemoration that, year after year, increases in participation not only of the citizens of  Mazarrón, also of the other towns of the Region from where come tens of people that want to honor to the patrona of Ecuador. The festivities are organized by the Cofradía Virgen del Cisne and in them collaborates the Town Hall through the council of Celebrations.

This year has been scheduled again two full holidays whose main events will be carried out in the Ferial Area of Mazarrón. Also, other of the places that will be the nerve center of the festivals will be the Convent square of  Mazarrón where, from 9 a.m. on Saturday 18th and to 10 p.m. of that day, the doors of the Sanctuary de La Purísima will be opened for that the people can contemplate the image of the Virgen del cisne.

That Saturday, from  19:15 h., will take place the procession with the image of  “La Churonita”, name that is known affectionately to this mariana advocation, that will depart from the Sanctuary and that this year has been enlarged to provide a greater enhancement to the celebration. The procession will run the Convento square, Callao square, Constitución avenue, Pino street,  Alfonso X “El Sabio” street,  “Pintor Agustín Navarro” street  and will return again to the temple.

At night, from 22:30 h., will take place the street cry of the festivals of this year and some performances of musical groups of Mazarrón and others that come from others places of the Region as Dolores de Pacheco, Totana or San Javier that will perform some traditional dances. The  folclore will be essential part of this night in which will participate also artists as Jorge Salvatierra, “Los Wayces”, Ana Andrea “Chillagana C”, “Los Dueño´s Band” or Paty “La Consentida de Ecuador”.

On Sunday 19th August  will continue the activities with the finals  of the sport quadrangulars  started on the previous day and will be celebrated popular games of the area as enchanted pots, bagged racing, chair dancing, tomato dance, air egg or  gluttony meals. Also, during the festivals, the Ferial area will have chiringuitos where the people can taste typical ecuatoriana food with dishes as caldo de gallina criolla, tamales, cecinas, ceviche, fritada and pinchos, and so on.
