MAZARRON HOSTS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: MARCH 2-13
Mazarrón will celebrate the occasion by launching an Awareness Campaign for Equality
Celebrated each year on March 8, International Women’s Day commemorates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2022, ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, recognises the contribution of women and girls around the world to the fight against climate change and towards building a more sustainable future for all.
This year, Mazarrón will celebrate the occasion by launching an Awareness Campaign for Equality on Wednesday March 2, which will include informative talks, readings and awards presentations in educational centres across the municipality.

The celebrations in Mazarrón for ‘8M’, as International Women’s Day is colloquially known in Spain, will have the honour of hosting Red Cross manager Tomasa Ruíz González, affectionately called Tomi, who is best known for her work with the La Canadica Neighbourhood Association and the LGTBI collective Understand Mazarrón. Tomi also participates very actively in the religious life of the local community and was involved in creating APROAMA, the Mazarrón Animal Protection Association which is partly responsible for the management of the new cat boxes that have been installed around town to control ferile cat populations.
