MAZARRÓN WILL BE INTERNATIONALLY PROJECTED THROUGH THE UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY
Campillo and Cruz agree in promoting concrete actions to bring tourist to the Región
It is already opened the term of registration to participate in the Open Internacional of Underwater Photography “Bahía de Mazarrón”, a photography contest organized by the Diving Center of Sureste “Bachisub” and the Federation of Underwater Activities of Murcia Region, thanks to the collaboration and support of the Town Hall of Mazarrón and of the Autonomus Community of Murcia Region. The event was introduced yesterday in Murcia by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the counselor of Tourism and Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz, the president of the Federation of Underwater Activities of Murcia Region, Jesús Cano Belchí, and the manager of the Diving Center of Sureste “Bachisub”, Alfonso Bachiller.
The contest has eight prizes that sum 16.000 euros. The winner of the Open will receive 6.000 euros, while also there will be a second and third prize gifted with 3.000 and 1.500 euros respectively. Also, there are 4 minor prizes gifted with 1.000 euros each one and a fifth of 1.500 euros that will be given to the diver that makes the photography more representative of the seabeds of the Bahía de Mazarrón. The event will take place in Mazarrón between 12th and 15th September and will bring the best experts in this kind of photography.
The counselor of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, highlighted during the presentation that this Open “is called to be the contest of underwater photography most important of Spain, giving prestige and diffusion to our waters and our seabeds”. Cruz qualified of “very creative” to the Town Hall of Mazarrón for the activities that promotes and that are very important as “campaign like this gives prestige to concrete products such the diving and the underwater photography, while that the general campaigns are nowadays more unable to bring tourists”.
Therefore, Cruz and Ginés Campillo agreed in that this activity, that joins sport and economic stimulation, supposes value the diving tourism in the Region and strengthen its national and international promotion. In this sense, the Mayor of Mazarrón was in accordance with the counselor as “during the last months we have bet for specialized events like giving to know the bountiesof our town, we consider that are more effective to bring”. Other examples are “Fotogenio” or the III Regata “Bahía de Mazarrón” that will be held this weekend in Mazarrón and that will bring more than 200 sailors of different Autonomous Community.
On the other hand, the president of the Federation of Underwater Activities of Murcia Region, Jesús Cano Belchí explained that “profile of the underwater tourist that comes to the Región is generally a man, aged between 20 and 50 years, and his average stay is between 8 and 10 days, in the case of Spanish, and between 10 and 15 days, in the case of foreign”. The number of amateurs to the diving is still growing in the Region, with an increase of 10 % in the last four years, both in the number of diving centers as in the number of federated.
Equally, the manager of the Diving Center of Sureste “Bachisub”, Alfonso Bachiller, explained that it has already been opened also the contest “Fotosub Online Bahía de Mazarrón” in the website www.openfotosubmazarron.com, through which you can get a place to participate in the Open Internacional de Fotografía Submarina “Bahía de Mazarrón”. The town will also host, of hand of the Diving Center of Sureste “Bachisub” and the Federation of Underwater Activities of Murcia Region, the first round of the Regional Championship “Fotosub” that will take place from 1st June and the second Regional Championship “Cazafotosub” on 15th June, both classificatory for the Championship of Spain.
