'PALS ' RAN YESTERDAY IN FAVOR OF THE CAMPAIGN ' FORGET ME NOT'

The charity run was held coinciding with the breaking of the barrier 4 minutes in the one mile run on 6th May, 1954

About thirty people participated yesterday in a charity race organized by the association of foreign residents ' Protection and Life Saving ' ( PALS ) to raise funds for the campaign ' Forget Me Not ' , an initiative to improve care and support that is offered  to patients with dementia and their loved ones.

The winner of the event, which took place in the urbanization of Camposol, was Colin Thackwell who ran the 1609 meters (one English mile) that consisted the race in a time of  7 minutes and 53 seconds. The race was held yesterday because it coincided with the 60th anniversary of the breaking of the barrier 4 minutes in the one mile race, which was accomplished by first time by the British athlete Roger Bannister on 6th May, 1954.

Councilor for Sports of the Town Hall of Mazarrón, Andrés Valera, was in charge of giving the starting signal to the participants. In addition to the council of Sports, in the event collaborated Local police, Civil Protection and Red Cross Mazarrón which came with the ambulance that precisely 'PALS ' donated a year ago to the Town Hall of Mazarrón.
