Puerto de Mazarron fountain filled with foam in disgraceful and harmful act of vandalism

The fountain on the Puerto de Mazarrón seafront was the scene of a dangerous prank last night

Last night, Monday November 7, the fountain on the seafront promenade in Puerto de Mazarrón suddenly appeared full of foam, leading the town Mayor, Gaspar Miras, to lament the “deplorable condition” and that “it is really difficult to preserve something that is beneficial for everyone”.

The Mayor of Mazarrón indicated last night, via social media, his displeasure at the vandalism of the new fountain on the promenade, reproaching that “behaviour such as sabotaging the fountain on the Paseo Marítimo, destroying street furniture or simply throwing something on the ground instead of in the bin, or depositing bags of rubbish outside a container, DOES NOT HELP IMPROVE MAZARRÓN”.

Adding bubbles and foam into the foam risks contaminating the water system, which is detrimental for the environment, and damaging the fountain. As the Mayor pointed out, “this could mean emptying the fountain, wasting a precious commodity such as water, breakdowns in the whole system of pumps and electronics or any other incident. LET’S TRY TO TAKE CARE OF WHAT BELONGS TO EVERYONE.”

The Mayor also sent a message to try to stamp out these acts by raising the public awareness of the sense of responsibility towards community: “It is vital that citizens become aware of the care, respect and protection of our municipal and natural heritage. Acts of this type only show that damaging urban furniture will always be a mistake and does not help the progress of our municipality.

“The Town Hall and the municipal services make a constant effort to maintain and try to improve the municipality working day after day, and that is why we ask for conscience and collaboration to make Mazarrón look as it should be.

“Let’s respect and take care of what is ours.”
