THE PLENUM URGES TO THE CHS TO BUILD THE DAMS IN THE RAMBLAS OF EL REVENTÓN AND LAS MORERAS AND FIX THE COURSE AND RIVER MOUTH OF THIS

The Municipal Plenum warns that whatever human or material damage that be produced for neglect of its state will be direct responsibility of the basin organization

The Municipal Plenum of the Town Hall of Mazarrón approved last Tuesday, with the favorable votes of the Government Team, a motion presented from Mayoralty in which was urged to the Nation Government to that in the General State Budgets for next year be contemplated the needed economic items for the construction of two dams in the ramblas of El  Reventón and Las Moreras, and whose projects are being studied by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) who announced its suitability to prevent damages by floods as happened in September 2012.

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, reminded that “last 21st February, the president of the CHS, Miguel Ángel Rodenas, and some technicians of this organization, visited the town of Mazarrón to study the construction of two dams to counter the impact of the torrential waters, as happened in September of 2012. Despite of the promises of the basin organization to carry out this works of hydrological correction, the General State Budgets for next year does not contemplate any action in this regard.”

Ginés Campillo highlighted that “is priority to undertake these works, more so when the CHS has carried out other works that will produce a overload on the ramblas of the town and that are the natural spillway of the rains that are produced in the  Guadalentín Valley  and in the Northwest of the Region”. The motion also urged that the CHS fixes the mouth of the rambla of Las Moreras, very damaged after the rains of September 2012, “so that overflows be not produced as happened in 1989 which razed with the campsite of  Bolnuevo and caused the death of  2 people, as well as many missing”.

These fixes in the mouth should also contemplate a limitation of the area where the rambla is joined with the sea “that warns of the danger that suppose enter on it and where two summers ago tragically died 2 children”, indicated the first councilor. To avoid in the future new personal losses, or important material damage, “it should be undertake these works as soon as possible, as well as the reconstruction of the bridge of Cañadas de Romero that was destroyed after the stormwater in September 2012”.

The motion was closed with a warning to the CHS that claimed that “whatever human or  material damage that be produced due for the neglect and lack of attention towards the town of  Mazarrón, will be direct responsibility of the basin organization”, highlighted  Ginés Campillo, who said that “after some visits to the CHS and of unfulfilled promises, is moment to ask what is right and necessary for Mazarrón. We will not stop raising our voice if we see that these claims  for the security of our citizens are not attended, as it does in other points of the Segura basin”, concluded the Mayor of Mazarrón.
