THE FOREIGN RESIDENTS HELD ONE MORE YEAR ‘THE ARMISTICE DAY’
The commemoration took place in the ‘Remembrance Garden’ situated on A sector of the Urbanization of Camposol
Last Monday 11th November, the ‘Remembrance Garden’ situated on A sector of the Camposol Urbanization hosted the celebration of the ‘Armistice Day’. It was a commemoration to remember the sacrifices of the members of the armed forces and civilians in wartime, specifically from the I World War. The ‘Remembrance Day’, as also it is known, is observed on 11th November to remember the official end of the I World War, as the main hostilities of the I World War formally ended at 11 hours on 11th day on month 11 in 1918, with the German signature of the Armistice.
To the ceremony attended the councilor for Citizens Participation, David Fernández, the councilor for Social Policy, María Martínez, the councilor for Rural Development, Magdalena Méndez, and the district Mayor of El Saladillo, José Andrés Navarro. Also attended to the commemoration, and for first time since this day is held in Camposol, the group ‘Humanists of Murcia’, and also a big group of foreign residents, among of which was even some war veteran as is the case of John Queree.
At the end of religious ceremony, which is the main event of this commemoration, the councilors, accompanied of the responsable of the Office for Foreign Residents of Camposol, Tatiana Andrés; donated to the ‘Remembrance Garden’ four acacias. It is tradition that this day, in addition of placing in the garden some crossings in whose crossing can be seen the popular poppy that symbolizes this day and where are engraved the names of those loved ones that have been victims of the war, plants and flowers be donated which increase the garden.
